Please find below the leaflet that will start to be delivered to all Leeds households week commencing 4th December, informing residents of bin collection dates over Christmas and New Year (24th December – 7th January).
The service will only be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, with crews operating throughout the rest of the festive period, including Sundays. So that no-one misses out on their bin being emptied, collection days will change from Christmas Eve (Sunday 24th December), with those scheduled for Christmas Day being made a day early. Collections will then take place a day later than usual from Tuesday 26th December until Sunday 7th January, returning to normal from Monday 8th January.
These date changes will ensure everyone receives their usual number of collections over the festive period and our hard working staff can have Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day off.
The key message is: If your bin collection day falls on Christmas Day, it will be made a day earlier. If you are due a collection from Boxing Day onwards, that collection will be made a day later instead. All collections return to their normal scheduled days from Monday 8th January.
Christmas is always our busiest time of year and we usually see a big increase in cardboard, paper and plastic recycling. This year we’ve again highlighted the wide range of common household items that can go in the Leeds green bin (attached – Page 2 Recycling Items).
We’ve also added an advance notice to residents that the city’s bin collection routes will be changing in 2024. The public will receive a written notification of the exact date of the change closer to the time but can still check their bin collection days by scanning the QR codes that point to www.leeds.gov.uk/mybinday or the Leeds Bins app
I’d appreciate it if you could cascade this information within your networks and ask them to share the information with Leeds friends and family by:
- Sharing the attached images on social media
- Following LeedsRecycles’ Facebook and X (Twitter) – messages via the links for re-posting
Our 8 household waste and recycling centres are open through the winter, 8am-4pm, only being closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day: www.leeds.gov.uk/recycling
Residents can still check their bin collection dates online at www.leeds.gov.uk/mybinday or download the handy Leeds Bins app to get bin day reminders.
