Replacement of Otley footbridge – road closure

Otley Bridge, an ancient and vital crossing in the heart of Otley town, is undergoing significant improvements. The 1950s cantilevered footway, which was added to enhance pedestrian safety, has reached the end of its useful life and now requires urgent replacement.

To ensure public safety and modernise the infrastructure, Leeds City Council will demolish the old footway and construct a new footbridge. To enable this, a temporary footbridge will be installed to maintain pedestrian access during the project.

Mill Lane will be closed to traffic from 9th September for approximately 3 weeks to commence preparatory works for the temporary footbridge.

It is anticipated that the temporary footbridge will be in place in Spring 2025 and will be in use for around 12 works until the works to the new footbridge are completed in Autumn 2025.

Further details can be found in a letter sent to local residents and on the Otley Bridge website.
