Mature Driver Appraisal scheme

As part of the delivery of Leeds City Council’s Vision Zero 2040 Strategy they are helping to promote the Mature Driver Assessments, a free 90-minute review session aimed at helping mature drivers ensure they remain safe on the roads. This initiative is part of a national research study funded by a grant from the UK charity, the Road Safety Trust (RST), to the Parliamentary Advisory Committee for Transport Safety (PACTS).

This initiative is part of a national research study evaluating the implementation, delivery, and benefits of standardised assessments for mature drivers. The goal is to measure their effectiveness and consistency while identifying areas for improvement and offers 50 free places for 2025 and builds on the success of a previous pilot in 2023/24 conducted in partnership with Leeds City Council and Leeds Older People’s Forum.

Do you know an older driver who would benefit from William Merritt Centre’s free Mature Driver Appraisal?

In your own car, driving to places you usually go, the 90-minute session with an approved driving instructor will:

Review driving to build confidence
Reassure that you are driving safely
Provide tips and advice
