Yorkshire Water have notified the Parish Council of emergency repair work currently taking place on Pool Bank New Road (A658), near the Dyneley Arms junction, and traffic management is in place.
Following reports received overnight, YW teams identified a sewer failure which has potentially resulted in pollution and the formation of a sinkhole in the carriageway. Emergency works are therefore underway to repair the damaged sewer and protect the local environment.
To enable these repairs to be carried out safely, traffic management has been installed in conjunction with Leeds City Council. This includes a contraflow system around the four-way Dyneley Arms junction, as well as temporary traffic lights. The two-way traffic lights have been installed approximately 300 metres downhill from the junction to allow tankers and other vehicles to pass through the area safely.
Operational teams are on site, and work will continue until the repair is completed. Once the sewer has been repaired, the pollution response operation and associated tanker movements will be stood down.
Permanent reinstatement of the highway will then follow, with traffic management remaining in place until it is safe to remove. Unfortunately, at this time, Yorkshire Water cannot give an accurate timescale for this to take place.
These emergency works may cause additional disruption, particularly given the ongoing planned works taking place in the wider area. However, because this is an unplanned sewer failure with environmental implications, it has been necessary to respond immediately to protect the public, the highway network and the local environment.
